City of Asylum® Writer Residency Applications

Instructions

How to apply for a City of Asylum® Exiled Writer Residency

Any writer who, in their country of permanent residence, is threatened or persecuted for expressing their opinions or ideas through literary work is invited to apply for City of Asylum’s Exiled Writer residencies. Please note that we do not accept candidates who advocate violence in any form.

Writers interested in an Exiled Writer Residency should download the application form (pdf). Please fill in and mail to:

City of Asylum
ATTN: Henry Reese
324 Sampsonia Way
Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

If the applicant is unable to fill out the form, the contact-person may submit it on the applicant’s behalf. If the applicant must not be contacted directly by City of Asylum, please state this clearly on the application form.

City of Asylum is not a refugee organization; we do not have the resources to immediately remove a writer from a threatening situation. We have no authority or influence with government organizations and must abide by the laws and regulations of each country. We cannot guarantee placement in our programs. Therefore it is extremely important that all applicants pursue every option for safety available to them.
