A Vivid Night of Melody with Camila Meza Quartet

March 19, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

This program marks a stop on Chilean jazz guitarist, singer, and songwriter Camila Meza’s month-long tour throughout the US. Camila is equally prized as a vocalist, guitarist, and composer who has uplifted audiences worldwide. Her assured and beautiful singing, highly advanced guitar, and vivid, melodic songwriting reveals complex layers with every listen. This tour represents a comeback for Camila, a return to the stage after three years away from live performing. She’ll be presenting music from her last album and some of her new works which will become part of her upcoming record coming out fall 2023.  CDs of Camila’s 2016 album, Traces, are available for purchase at the program.

About the Artist:

Camila Meza has been hailed by The New York Times for her “appealing combination of lightness and depth” as well as her improvisation on both electric and acoustic guitar. In 2019 she released her fifth album, Ambar, producing it herself and proudly unveiling the Nectar Orchestra, a collaboration with bassist and arranger Noam Wiesenberg. Camila moved from Chile to New York at 23, graduating in 2013 from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Bringing a sound full of warmth and clarity to the New York jazz scene, she has distinguished herself as a member of Ryan Keberle’s Catharsis and Fabian Almazan’s Rhizome, and she has also worked with Paquito D’Rivera, Aaron Goldberg, Sachal Vasandani, and many others. She has appeared at festivals worldwide as well as on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and WBGO’s The Checkout, garnering praise from The Village Voice and The Wall Street Journal among other outlets. In 2018, Pat Metheny enlisted her to perform and act as musical director for his NEA Jazz Masters induction ceremony at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In 2022, she was named “#1 Rising Star Female Vocalist” by Downbeat Magazine.
