City of Asylum welcomes Pascuala Ilabaca, a unique and treasured voice in both the Latin American and World Music scenes. Hailing from Valparaiso, Chile, singer-songwriter Pascuala Ilabaca has released six albums and performed on multiple world tours in just a little over a decade. With a dynamic sound steeped in tradition and blended seamlessly with everything from jazz to pop and rock, Pascuala is known for her flamboyant and refreshing performances.
This engagement of Pascuala Ilabaca y Fauna is made possible in part through the Iber Exchange program of Mid Atlantic Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Ibermúsicas.
About the Artist:
Pascuala Ilabaca is a singer-songwriter hailing from Valparaiso, Chile. Her debut album, Pascuala Canta a Violeta, was released in 2008. By 2012, she had completed her first two European tours and released her second album, Busco Paraiso. In 2014, Ilabaca released her third and fourth albums and completed an 11-concert tour in England that included a performance at the London Jazz Festival. 2015 brought the release of her fifth album Rey Loj and performances at Shambala and WOMAD in the UK, Circulart in Colombia and La Mar de Musicas and the Bidasoa Folk Festival in Spain. In 2016, she received the Pulsar Prize, the most important Chilean music industry award, and in 2017, Ilabaca performed 22 concerts in Europe, followed by her first U.S. tour. In 2018, Ilabaca released her sixth album and spent the next two years touring the world. Throughout the pandemic, Pascuala performed remotely and wrote a trove of new music, including collaborations with other Latin American women artists. Upon the world’s reopening, Pascuala Ilabaca & Fauna began touring immediately, taking on the mainstage of the Montreal Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza Chile, the closing ceremonies of the 2023 Pan American Games and more. Pascuala Ilabaca & Fauna are currently signed to Warner Music Chile and released the albums “Lucero” in 2022 and “Alegriste” and “Portena” in 2023.
