Alto saxophonist, composer, educator and bandleader Gigi Gryce is one of Jazz’s quiet Masters. Gryce was at the forefront of the Hard Bop movement of the early / mid 1950’s making equal contributions as a player and composer. Gryce participated in some of that era’s most important recording sessions with greats like Clifford Brown, Art Blakey, Max Roach and Teddy Charles. He also pioneered Jazz musicians publishing and owning their music, a role that would ultimately drive him away from the Jazz world.
Join the musicians of the Off Minor Jazz Series as they showcase some of Gryce’s best known pieces along with some rare gems.
Featured Musicians:

Alton Merrell – piano
