Thursday Night Jazz: Mila Shadel Quartet’s Favorite Love Songs

February 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Get into the Valentine’s Day mood with an early celebration at City of Asylum. Up-and-coming guitarist and Pittsburgh native Mila Shadel brings the magic of love in all its forms—romantic and platonic, young love and lifelong devotion—to the Alphabet City stage, leading her quartet in a concert of her favorite love songs, ranging from warm and fuzzy familiar favorites to sparkling hidden gems.

Featured musicians:

Mila Shadel: guitar

Joe Sheehan: piano

Anton DeFade: bass

James Johnson III: drums

About the Artist:

Mila Shadel hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and hasn’t put her guitar down since she first picked it up at the age of 10. She attended Duquesne University, where she received her degree in Jazz Guitar performance. While she was there, she started playing in the vibrant local Pittsburgh jazz scene, which allowed her to get experience on the bandstand and to learn about the rich music history that the scene has to offer. Since her college days, she has continued to work with some of the best jazz musicians in Pittsburgh and started to lead her own groups at different venues. The music she plays in her shows reflects the classic jazz guitar trio sound, often pulling from the discographies of George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, and Emily Remler. Her own compositions are heavily influenced by the musicians in her life and reflect her deep love for the music.
