Thursday Night Jazz: Rich Zabinski Quartet Presents the Music of Benny Golson

Benny Golson was an icon of the bebop and hardbop eras, making major contributions to the world of jazz with such standards as“Killer Joe,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Along Came Betty,” “Stablemates,” “Whisper Not,” “Blues March,” “Five Spot After Dark,” and “Are You Real?” He was a multitalented and internationally famous jazz legend, wearing the many hats of composer, arranger, lyricist, producer, and tenor saxophonist of world note. 

In this birthday celebration of the giant, drummer Rich Zabinski and his quartet play the music of Benny Golson and honor this jazz icon.

About the Artist:

Rich Zabinski has been active as a freelance jazz drummer in Western Pennsylvania for the last 35 years and has been leading his own band for the last eight years. While pursuing a degree in pharmacy at Duquesne University, Rich was active in the music school, studying drum set with Lenny Rogers and performing with the Duquesne Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. Rich has had the honor to perform with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and has shared the stage with such luminaries as Clark Terry and Marvin Stamm. Rich has also been very active in the world of marching arts, having taught at and written for the Kiski Area Marching Band, the Centerville Jazz Band, and the Steel City Ambassadors Drum & Bugle Corps. Rich performs regularly with his group at Kingfly Spirits in the Strip District and at ShuBrew in Zelienople, and he recently performed as a guest artist at Gregory’s Jazz Club in Rome, Italy.
