World of Music: Steel City Calypso (Caribbean Steel Drums)

You don’t need to buy a plane ticket to hear the lively, bouncing sounds of the Caribbean. All you need to take you away to the islands is a concert with Steel City Calypso, a four-piece outfit comprised of Pittsburgh music-scene icons, joined in this performance by vocalist Chantal Joseph. Steel City Calypso performs everything from traditional calypso music from the island of Trinidad to a variety of music from different parts of the Caribbean and Brazil. This performance will focus on the history and role of the steel drums in Trinidad and Tobago, where the steel drums are the national instrument.
