Bans Off Our YA Book Festival
Bans Off Our YA (BOOYA) Book Festival, November 3-4, 2023, will protect and celebrate freedom of creative expression by amplifying authors of banned young adult (YA) books. The festival will celebrate the diverse stories and perspectives that bans on YA books are attempting to suppress. The festival will also provide and opportunity for teens to interact with authors whose work is being banned and support the right of all teens to access diverse stories that reflect their own lives and help them cultivate empathy for others.
Now Seeking Teen Curators
City of Asylum is hiring four Teen Curators who will help plan the festival. The BOOYA Teen Curators should be enthusiastic about YA books, passionate about fighting book bans, and interested in gaining leadership experience. Teen Curator applicants should be between ages 15-19, reside in Allegheny County, and be enrolled in a high school in Allegheny County. Teens enrolled in PA Cyber School are eligible to apply.
Teen Curators will receive a $750 stipend for their work on the festival between March-November 2023.
