City of Asylum rehabilitates houses on Pittsburgh’s Northside for use by writers-in-residence, and commissions a public artwork that incorporates a literary text for the façade of each house. City of Asylum calls this process house-publishing.
Thus far, five houses — House Poem, Winged House, Pittsburgh-Burma House, Jazz House, and Comma House— have been published. An additional house has been rehabbed and is being used by writers while awaiting publication. Eventually, Sampsonia Way will be transformed into a public library of published houses that can be read while walking down the street.
