Across the globe, freedom of expression is under attack. In the heart of Pittsburgh, City of Asylum provides a refuge for exiled writers and for their ideas: ideas which refute, challenge, and unite.
Thanks to the support of individual donors, City of Asylum is the world’s largest sanctuary for exiled writers. Only a few of the 80 cities in the International Network (ICORN) host even 2 writers. With 6 writers on Sampsonia Way, Pittsburgh is home to more exiled writers than all the ICORN cities in England, France, and Germany combined.
And since opening in 2017, Alphabet City has become one of the most important presenting venues in Pittsburgh. Over the last six years we have presented more than 1050 free readings, concerts, and films to audiences of over 140,000 people.
