Fadi Kattan on Food and Community

November 29, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST

How powerful is food, really? Can it bring people together in times of joy and strife? What’s the role of food in diasporic communities? What stories can be told through food?

Franco-Palestinian chef Fadi Kattan ponders these topics and more in what’s sure to be an engrossing evening of contemplation, exploration, and celebration.

Fadi grew up in Bethlehem, Palestine where he inherited a love of food from his maternal grandmother. After opening his own restaurant, Fawda, in 2015, Fadi created the region’s first food tours, allowing visitors to meander around Bethlehem’s markets, meet farmers and artisans, and taste foraged herbs, raw cheeses, and fresh taboun bread. Currently, Fadi’s in the process of opening a new restaurant—Akub—in London, where he’s putting his own spin on traditional Palestinian cuisine.

In conversation with Omar Abuhejleh, owner of local favorites Allegro Hearth Bakery and B52 Café.
