City of Asylum rehabilitates houses on Pittsburgh’s Northside for use by writers-in-residence, and commissions a public artwork that incorporates a literary text for the façade of each house. City of Asylum calls this process house-publishing.
Thus far, four houses — House Poem, Winged House, Pittsburgh-Burma House and Jazz House — have been published. An additional house has been rehabbed and is being used by writers while awaiting publication. Eventually, Sampsonia Way will be transformed into a public library of published houses that can be read while walking down the street.
