The collaborative trio of Jason Stein, Damon Smith, and Adam Shead feature a fluid music making process of spontaneous composition that is as rhythmically driving as it is melodically complex.
The Stein/Smith/Shead trio (from Chicago) will perform an opening set of music followed by a collaborative set with Pittsburgh locals Mai Khoi, Mark Micchelli, and Eli Namay. To end the evening the six musicians will engage in a casual conversation and Q&A with the audience discussing concepts of composition, improvisation, collaboration, improvised music history, and much more.
This is a must-see evening for contemporary jazz fans and anyone curious in the improvisation process.
Featured Musicians:
Jason Stein: bass clarinet
Damon Smith: double bass
Adam Shead: drums
Mai Khoi: voice
Mark Micchelli – piano
Eli Namay: double bass
