Our November screening is Trans Indian Story, a documentary film directed by Amir Jaffer and starring Anjali Rimi. In it, Anjali shares her gender journey as a trans, immigrant woman, and the challenges she faces in leading the United States’ first and only Transgender-led South Asian Organization: Parivar (Family). While creating Transgender centering spaces with a focus on Global South Immigrants in the San Francisco Bay Area, Anjali’s fight for acceptance and equal opportunity is not confined to the United States. She has helped countless trans, hijra, and kinnar folks in India during and after the pandemic. Filmed across 24 cities and communities in India, Trans Indian Story offers a glimpse of the struggles of the culturally diverse trans, hijra, and kinnar identities.
The screening will be followed by a moderated Q&A with director Amir Jaffer and star Anjali Rimi.
